Photographers stand up for your rights in LA, June 1

“One June 1, photographers throughout Los Angeles will gather at the Hollywood and Highland Metro Station to peacefully protest against the unnecessary treatment they have received from security guards…, LAPD, and LASD while photographing in public places, and on the Metro.” As seen on TV. I’d do it if I were going to be in town!

St. Baldrick's

“What would you look like bald? You’d look like a hero for kids with cancer!… Register online, post a photo of yourself with hair, send an email to friends and family to solicit donations of support, and then go to an event where you’ll have your head shaved!” I’m considering doing this… what do y’all think?

36 Hours in Baltimore

“Baltimore is sometimes the forgotten middle child among attention-getting Eastern cities like Washington and New York. But a civic revival, which began with the harbor’s makeover 27 years ago, has given out-of-towners reason to visit… Baltimore’s renaissance has also cultivated cool restaurants with innovative cuisine, independent theaters that showcase emerging talent and galleries that specialize in contemporary art. In other words, Baltimore is all grown up, but it’s still a big city with a small-town feel.”

A man is hard to find in Md.

“According to data released today by the U.S. Census Bureau, the ratio of men to women in Maryland is among the lowest in the nation, with fewer than 93 men for every 100 women here. Only the District of Columbia and Mississippi have more lopsided gender ratios. Looking for the best odds to find a man? Try Alaska, with its 103 men to every 100 women - some towns, with up to 120 men per 100 women, have even tried to recruit women to move there.” Maybe I should move!

How to get that perfect shave

“Ever since prehistoric man first scraped a seashell across his cheek so prehistoric woman would let him dance cheek-to-cheek, shaving has been a part of the male experience. But even with today’s high-tech razors, lots of men still get nicks, cuts, and razor burn. Today’s Tech Editor Corey Greenberg is here with the latest trend in male grooming that promises a better shave by going back to the old school.”

Fiendish Master Plan

“‘Fiendish Master Plan’ is just a not-particularly-innovative note-taking practice, combined with a dog-simple Ruby script that takes care of the boring parts. I’m pretty proud of it regardless. The name resulted from Historical Reasons, and can be, nay, ought to be, safely ignored.”

The golden age of cocktails

“Visitors to the Museum of the American Cocktail can sip a classic or cutting-edge drink as they check out the collection of historical cocktail memorabilia, because exhibits are on display in a room at Commander’s Palace restaurant in Aladdin Resort & Casino.” Plus recipes! Maybe there is a reason for me to go to Vegas!

Should I Take to Drink?

“Since I turn 35 in a week, I’m once again pondering whether I should take to drink. The last time I thought about it, I looked around for a good survey of the medical literature, but didn’t have much success. I do recall reading a skeptic saying that “moderate drinking is good for you” research bundles together lifelong teetotalers with recovering alcoholics. Seemed plausible, but the skeptic didn’t really have any data. But now, just in time for my birthday, there’s a new meta-study backing up the skeptic. Lucky me!”
